"Neither her voice nor laughter
would swallow the silence that day."
-If I Know It's Coming

The Long Road...
I grew up in Des Moines, IA. With family still there and being an avid Hawkeye fan, I still feel connected to my roots. No Iowa jokes please. Trust me, I have heard them all.
My tennis game and love of small, liberal arts campuses brought me to Minnesota and Gustavus Adolphus College. I graduated in 1999 with degrees in English and Secondary Education.
I have been teaching English and Creative Writing in Bloomington, MN for 24 years. The adventure that is adolescence has been the inspiration for much of my writing. Along with wanting to be a writer, I have always had a passion for teaching. It is a dream come true that I am able to pursue both right now.
After my teaching career had been established, I made one of the best professional decisions of my life: I decided to enroll at Hamline University to pursue my Master's degree. In 2008 I graduated with a MA in Liberal Studies/Creative Writing. I am forever in debt to the professors, such as Mary Logue, Deborah Keenan, and Julie Neraas who helped me realize my writing potential. An early draft of If I Know It's Coming served as the synthesis project for my graduation and it received the award for "Best Creative Synthesis" for the 2008 class.
My biggest joy though, is coming home each day to my wife, Tara, and my two children. We now live in Northfield, MN, a vibrant arts community in its own right. My family's support has allowed me to trot down this "long road" that will hopefully continue for many miles.
